Philosophy of Therapy
There are “Good Reasons” for the problems you are dealing with right now. At some point, typically in early childhood, you developed “rules” (core beliefs and behaviors) to make sense of the world, others and yourself, to protect you, or get your needs met in some way.
Unfortunately, in adulthood, these same rules that you learned in your early life are likely working against you.
As a Psychologist, I’ll first help you understand the role your problems play in your life and show you how to be more compassionate towards yourself for having them.
It’s not your fault you struggle with worries and fears.
AND, most importantly, it IS possible to overcome them. Therapy will help you give up thoughts, habits, and behaviors that are not serving you well, such as chronic worrying, perfectionism, and people pleasing.
You CAN have a more fulfilling life with better relationships.
A Caring and Collaborative Therapy Style
Whether in my Vancouver counselling office or online, I offer a safe, secure, and compassionate environment for you to heal your struggles.
I’m personable and collaborative. You determine the issues you want to work on and the outcomes you wish to achieve.
I may offer suggestions, but we always decide together on what happens in therapy.
I’m skilled at understanding you on a deep level and helping you get to the root of your struggles so you can heal them.
I will help you understand yourself more deeply, which will make it easier to develop strategies to change the way you think and behave.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for Anxiety & Stress
I am a Certified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CACBT).
CBT is one of the most widely-used therapy tools by therapists. For several decades, research studies have proven its effectiveness for a wide range of mental health concerns.
CBT gives you strategies to manage anxious thoughts, feelings and behaviors. CBT enables you to gain more accurate and balanced thoughts in problem situations and experiences.
“Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is specifically developed to treat anxiety in adults”.
Individual 50-Minute Counselling Sessions
The length of time it will take for you to complete therapy really depends on the nature of your concerns and the goals you are setting for yourself.
Many of my clients have reached their goals in 5-8 sessions. However, for complex concerns it may take significantly longer to finish.
Each week, we will review your progress at the beginning of the session, then work on the next steps you need to take.
At the end of each session, I’ll typically assign practice exercises, and ask you whether and how the work we did in the session was helpful.
If you work hard in between sessions and give me feedback about what is and what is not working, you’ll be more likely to make the changes that you’re yearning for.
Regardless of how discouraged you may feel right now, you CAN get relief from anxiety.
I’ve helped individuals just like you to create more rewarding and fulfilling lives for more than 20 years.
I can help you too!
